Pollution Taxes

A pollution tax or green tax as some politicians call it has been around for a while. When reviewing the limitations on how much an increase should be, it should be noticeable, but not high enough to make people stop buying. According to the Tax Policy Center (Howard Gleckman, taxpolicycenter.org, 2019), both businesses and people, could afford a 25 cent increase. This would significantly increase the amount of funding that would be available for road funds. Over time this tax increase will have amassed enough money to fix roads and highways.

The downsides to increasing the tax on gas is that you would see the middle class respond negatively as they are the ones driving the most. Seeing that now it is pricier to drive somewhere, we would see other items become more expensive as it is now worth more to make and purchase.  Raising this tax would not only hurt the people or businesses, but it would make the economy take a huge hit (Emma Boone, Atr.org, 2015).

Personally, I believe that having a tax increase would not be beneficial. This increase would not be beneficial as it would not be efficient for businesses. As stated prior, prices of consumer goods would go up because of the price of driving. This means that businesses would have to offset their whole income ratio for that year.  Increasing the tax on gasoline would only through everyone off and might even make our economy worse, this is why I am against a tax increase.
