Pollution Taxes Alex Springer

The government should raise the pollution tax on gas. An increase of the pollution tax could greatly benefit the economy. An increase in pollution tax, according to Senator Tom Carper, would allow the country to increase its infrastructure and better improve the transportation of the country. The improvement of the infrastructure would drastically change the way our country could function. Goods could be transported across the country and out of the country at a faster rate and more money would run through the country which would be a great benefit.

The government should not raise the pollution tax on gas. Raising the pollution tax would have a huge effect on the number of people that would be able to drive which is bad for those who need transportation to commute to places of employment. According to Emma Boone, a tax expert, raising taxes would mostly affect the middle and lower classes. This is bad for the economy because it limits the flow of money from employer to employee. If taxes were raised people would not be able to buy gas as often and more of the money that they make would have to be spent on gas, which goes against all the hard work that they put in. Raising taxes would not even make that much of a difference for the government, but a huge difference for those who pay for gas.

The government should not raise the pollution tax on gas. The cons of raising taxes on pollution, highly outweigh those of the pros. The main benefit of raising the taxes would be the difference it could make for infrastructure, which is highly beneficial, but the millions of people that could be sucked into poverty are not worth that of raising the pollution tax. If more people ever manage to make it out of poverty and into the middle or upper class, then we can raise the tax on gas and focus on infrastructure, but as of right now it is not worth raising the taxes on gas.
