Pollution Taxes

One pro to having higher pollution taxes on gas is because it will make people cut back on how much they use it.  Oecd.org states that " Environmental pricing through taxation leaves consumers and businesses the flexibility to determine how best to reduce their environmental “footprint".  If people can make a smaller footprint our environment will flourish instead of giving us snow in April. Nobody wants the world to be covered in smog and car fumes for the next generations to come.  Most of the people want what's best for people so they can help make an impact on the world.

One con is that raising pollution taxes on gasoline will hurt the people who are trying to work low-end jobs who are trying to help pay for their family.  That extra tax on gas can take away a meal for that family.  Nber.org states that" That same increase in gas prices would also increase hours worked by 0.07 percent, approximately 2 hours per household per year". Pollution taxes are making people work longer hours just so they can pay or gas and food for their families. Working longer hours also means time away from family which no parent likes.

I am all for raising pollutions taxes as the benefits to our environment is all for it in my opinion. Being able to live in a world where I do not have to wear a mask from too many gases in the air that might give me cancer or asthma. I want the world we live in to live as long as it can without it blowing the earth up.  People will be able to help keep the environment just by not riving as much or carpooling. Simple solution can go a far way.

  1. Pollution is very difficult to stop once and for all. It is not worth the time and money to find a solution to a conflict that is impossible to stop.

  2. The higher price would only cause families to have to cut money somewhere else in order to pay for the gas prices. This wouldn't lower the amount used it would just take more and more money from low income families. With many more cars being produced everyday the possibility of a lower footprint just seems to be getting smaller.

  3. i disagree with your opinion because if we raise the taxes then no one will be able to drive their own cars so the gas company would lose money.

  4. How could you get to work with a higher gas tax? wouldn't you have to either pay more for the gas, or ride public transportation, which of you live in a city that only has buses, the fare would be increased, and the number if people riding the buses would be increased, making it harder to ride on the busses.

  5. I disagree with this argument because although raising the pollution taxes helps the environment, it also greatly hurts the economy. These taxes hurt the economy because it takes money away from middle class citizens, who make up one-third of Americans. Not only will it hurt the middle class but makes it so a majority a majority of people will not have the ability to pay. The positives of helping the environment do not out weigh the negatives of hurting the economy.

  6. I disagree with your point of view on raising the tax on gas. Yes it might benefit our environment but it could be a disadvantage to many other things. People would be struggling to pay the extra amount just to be able to get from one place to another and they might not even be making enough as it is. Not only will people be struggling but so would our economy because it would cost more to transport goods to different areas as well. So, raising the tax price might benefit the environment but it could hurt the people and the economy.

  7. The families that are barely getting by currently and have troubles even paying for the car that they have are no longer going to be able to go to their jobs that they need to feed their families.

  8. I disagree because it might might the environment, it would affect other things like car companies. It would also affect people being able to drive sense those people can't afford to buy gas for the car.

  9. I disagree with this because scientists how gone back and forth on whether or not global warming is caused by CO2 emissions. As far as air pollution goes, people won't have to wear masks when they are outdoors for a very long time and a different natural disaster will likely end life on Earth before it is unsafe to go outdoors. Therefore, I don't see the benefit of increasing the tax burden and sacrificing our economy to have what would likely be an unnoticeable change in air quality.
